Juan Carlos Arroyo

Juan Carlos Arroyo is a civil engineer specialized in Roads, Canals, and Ports (UPM, 1990) and holds a PhD in Architecture (UCJC, 2017). He is the founder of CALTER Ingeniería (1997), CINTER Divulgación Técnica (2000), and Ingenio.xyz (2005). His research on expansion joints at the ETSICCP of UPM (1990) led to the design of the world’s largest jointless structure (1998, Aldaia). Over the past 25 years, he has published numerous research articles and works in Spanish industry journals and at international conferences held in Spain. He holds several patents, including two on folding structures, one on prefabricated nodes for prefabricated concrete wind towers, and a patent for modular construction of 3D buildings. His notable publications include the "Prontuario informático del hormigón" (1992), a book and essential free software for Spanish structural design offices, and "Números gordos en el proyecto de estructuras" (2001). He co-authored the 15th and 16th editions of "Hormigón armado" by Jiménez Montoya.

Since 1992, Juan Carlos has taught numerous postgraduate courses at institutions including UNED, the University of Seville, UPC, and UPM. He has directed summer courses at UCJC and expert courses at the University of Castilla la Mancha and the Master’s in Building Structures at UNED and the School of Building. He has also served as an associate professor at ETSICCP, EUAT, and ETSAM at UPM. As a structural engineer, his notable projects include work on the airports of Cali, Reus, Ciudad Real, and Terminal 4 of Barajas (in collaboration); the State Library in Santiago de Compostela; the local police station in Plasencia; the A Coruña Fairgrounds; the renovation of the Jiménez Díaz Foundation; over one hundred concrete wind towers; and the refurbishment of Torres Colón.
